Nominiations will be accepted through March 31, 2019.
The session of Trinity wishes to announce plans to expand the Session and Diaconate in 2019 by electing new elders and deacons. The process for selecting new elders and deacons is described below.
Church members are invited to recommend men to the office of ruling elder or deacon they believe possess the giftedness and character to serve as an officer in Christ’s church. Prior to submitting this form, please prayerfully review the requirements for the office of elder in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 and the office of deacon in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. Discussing this recommendation with the person you are nominating is a must and an important part of the process.
In addition to meeting the requirements set forth in Scripture, a nominated man must be a member in good standing at Trinity, must be willing to complete the Trinity elder and deacon training course, and must complete additional specialized training (if applicable) and must successfully pass an oral and written examination administered by the current session. Above all, he must have the desire to serve (1 Timothy 3:1), the calling from God, and the ability to serve.
The Session will review nominees and select a slate of men to proceed with further study (if needed) and stand for examination. Each potential nominee will be asked to complete a written exam covering areas relating to their Christian testimony, sense of call to the office of elder or deacon, theology, Bible content, Book of Church Order and other items. Once the written examination is completed and reviewed the Session will also question the nominees in an oral exam.
When the study and examinations are completed to the satisfaction of the Session, nominees will be announced to the congregation and stand for election in a duly called congregational meeting.
During a future Sunday morning worship service, the newly elected ruling elder(s) and deacon(s) elect will be ordained and installed in their office.
Terms of Office
Elders and deacons elected in 2019 will serve a three year term. At the conclusion of the first term, they are eligible for re-election to a three year term by congregational vote from a slate presented by the Session at a duly called congregational meeting. After serving two consecutive terms, church officers must take a 1 year Sabbatical before being eligible for re-election.
